Facing the necropolis as a form of relationship with the place and forgiveness, we tried to bring a new dimension in the city through the necropolis, the relation with the place and the memory.

The plot was chosen against the A’ cemetery of Patras. The plan results from resting the geometry of existing cemetery on the plan. A geometry onto the old geometry, thus creating movements identifiable in topography. The outer wall delimits the interior space of the building, allowing the existing topography of the mountain to enter the building, creating a space that works like a garden of memories.

In the garden someone is faced with the intersection of the mountain.

The facade consists of squares by referring to the geometry of the faces that urban blocks have. The outer wall with a thickness of 5 m and a height of 16 m, torn in two, creating a corridor which is 2 m inside and hosts the mass graves.

A wall which has no contractual dimensions as one wall of the city, but starting from there, "inflate" the structure of having to "abandoned" by the souls of the dead. The spatial inversion replacing the material with the program.

A staircase leads to a platform, which acts like a terrace above a building. Another wall is hosting containers with ash and a public space. The slot in the roof space has a direction from West to East, helping to understand the cycle of day and night, and existing the cycle of life and death.

If the graveyards have as their operation the visit of threads, this necropolis wants to integrate in the design something that perhaps we have forgotten...whereas the Tomb originally has to do with memory, and then place a "pilgrimage" but firstly is a place for reflection and memories.
